Feature: Visualizing Vietnam

It started out as the smallest of whispers, a wary maybe making its way through the shouts of doubt within my heart. I - just like everyone else - wanted to be heard. No one would read it, most likely, but at least it would be out there. My part would be complete.  And so, somehow, that small whisper overcame those shouts of doubt and I started my personal blog.

The People of Tokyo

Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to go to Japan and experience the culture there. As a small child, I grew up in Hong Kong and attended an international kindergarten there. We went out for a class outing one day and my mom forgot to pack me lunch. My Japanese friends were so kind and shared their sushi with me, and since then, sushi has become one of my favorite foods.

Meet Mark Ranucci

Few people have the courage to step out into the unknown with something that they passionately believe in. In all actuality, 95% of us have ideas that we never put into action for various reasons. Mark Ranucci is not one of those people, in fact, he is a big supporter of those who are stepping out in their passion. He started Surf Collective, an online hub for Australian independent surf brands who are local companies creating incredible products. This platform is making waves (quite literally) in the industry and we took the time to hear from Mark about the heart and story behind this online store.

Seeing LA Through a New Lens

Upon first arriving in LA, I experienced a great deal of culture shock; Accustom to quiet and reserved yet a collective society, I found LA to be a blaring place; boisterous people, heavy traffic, florid colors.

It was difficult to feel at ease at first, I found the uncertainty behind the unpredictability of others quite nerve wracking.

“Texas is the finest portion of the globe that has ever blessed my vision”- Sam Houston.

Berkley, California

Berkeley’s contemporary spirit is as vibrant as its history. Most widely known as a home to proponents of social change and the state’s first University of California campus (UC Berkeley), the city that hugs the bay east of San Francisco is a bustling hub for the arts, dining, and culture. Berkeley is dense with various neighborhoods – like 4th Street, the Elmwood, and the Gourmet Ghetto – that offer restaurants and shops by thoughtful owners who are committed to quality and ingenuity. In looking at some of my favorite local places, some of which I have loved my whole life by living in the area, I realized that so many of them were founded by enterprising women in the area, who were, and still are, renegades to their profession.

The Deserts of Merzouga, Morocco

Growing up on the Sunshine Coast, Australia my backyard was a mix of beaches and hinterlands, the kind you travel the world to see. From a young age I craved adventure, dreamed of living abroad and traveling the world. At 19 I moved to Brighton UK. I travelled through Europe and Africa and I'm now settled in Melbourne - until I decide which country to move to next.

Journey Through Barcelona's Artistic Structures

It was a cheap plane ticket and the George Ezra song, “Barcelona,” that initially drew me in. I knew virtually nothing about the city. I stepped off the plane, and the endless possibilities and alleyways to wander captivated my heart.

Narrow streets were walled in by bright buildings of color and laundry hanging on lines, swaying languidly with the wind. The wind itself was tinged with the salty clues that led me to the sea, just a few blocks down.

Portugal Road Trip - Porto to Lisbon

While having Vienna as a base, I often made trips to the surrounding countries; it was amazing to me how one could travel a few hours in one direction and experience an entirely different culture and language. Having been inspired by my travels and new experiences, I set out to begin studying photography in Berlin, Germany. Fast-forward two years, and I’m currently staying in LA, temporarily working on my own projects. Today I’m fascinated by seemingly mundane places, and in love with harsh light and shadows.

Organic Life On the WWOOFing Farm

Having never really been exposed to organic living, I had no idea what to expect. I did know that there was a good chance a close-up encounter would change my perspective on going organic, a lifestyle I knew was beneficial but did not think was worth the expenses. WWOOF was the organization I decided to use to get that close-up encounter.
