Growing up in a city as mesmerizing and merciless as Los Angeles, I’ve learned that one of the most essential ways to recharge is to simply sit down with a close friend and share a heart-felt meal. What’s even better is to retreat ocean-side to a neighborhood like Venice, where surfing, killer coffee, and beautiful eateries are in no short supply. One must-try option for anyone exploring LA, and scratching their head as to where to start, is the Rose Cafe and Restaurant located on 220 Rose Ave. This newly renovated restaurant is just a short walk from the water and only a mile away from the enchanting Abbott Kinney Blvd. (Which always deserves an entire afternoon trip in its own right).

The Rose is a massive and stunning space, with an atmosphere and energy that you feel instantly. There is beautiful and thoughtful design touching every detail of the Rose: light pouring in through the blue window panes, patterned tiles, a macramé plant chandelier, floral accents, and original prints from artist and DogTown legend C.R. Stecyk. Upon entering, you’ll find a Verve coffee bar and bakery in front of you, a full-service cocktail bar to the left of you, and an open-air kitchen at the other end. Outside there are two gorgeous patios, and an herb garden.

Along with visual dynamism, the quality of food at the Rose follows right in step. The Farmer’s Market-driven menu is brilliantly drool-inducing: charred avocado toast with grilled scallion/jalapeno marmalade, burrata with grilled pears & chili sambal, brussels sprouts with fried egg and kale pesto and desserts that make angels cry, and so much more. Proving yet again that LA is one of the best places on this planet for my favorite six-letter word: brunch. And in case you’re wondering, yes. One can have dessert after brunch.

Needless to say, if you’re in Venice, grab a friend or a good book and visit the Rose—a deliciously memorable space to recharge will be waiting for you.
